For this project, we were asked to design a cover as well as the layout for Linn Ullmann’s short novel, Time for the Eyes to Adjust. This photograph was chosen for the cover to represent the setting of the story, cold, Norwegian sea, and the imagery has a sense of mystery, calmness, and evoke a sentimental feeling, which was how I felt after reading the story. The treatment of the texts that is fading away is inspired by the idea that memories fade away as time passes by, which is a central theme of the story. The horizontal lines that breaks the stories into sections was taken from the horizon lines in the photograph, as well as a representation of author’s lifeline.
